A Yachting Lifestyle

Currently, El Gouna is home to two large marinas. The existing marinas are full of yachts and power boats of all sizes. The Abu Tig marina has restaurants, bars and shops which draw residents, owners and visitors to enjoy the maritime atmosphere. It is the perfect place to relax and watch the sun set after a day at sea.

Abu Tig serves as a final destination and as a stop-over point for vessels traveling onwards to the Mediterranean Sea or the Indian Ocean. It is a popular winter base, where sailors can make the most of a reasonable cost of living, and it is also a harbour of choice for the Med-Red, Vasco de Gama, and Blue Water international yacht rallies.

A new and larger North Basin was started early in 2006 and will be finished in 2009. This new extension will cater to the rapidly-expanding mega yacht market by offering berthing for vessels up to 60 meters in length. The professional marina staff are always on hand to assist the most seasoned of sailors or the novice. Berthing rates are exceptionally low at the exising El Gouna marinas.

Abydos, El Gouna’s second marina, has a capacity of 40 vessels and harbours El Gouna’s many diving boats. It offers dry dock and repair services with a ship lift for vessels up to 19 meters. It has a diesel fuel station, electricity lines, channel-6 VHF and a maintenance center.

The cruising grounds of the Red Sea provide fun sailing and exceptional scenery. The daily guaranteed sea breeze gives the opportunity for some thrilling white sail reaching. Take a trip out to enjoy a picnic on one of the many nearby islands. There is access from the north through the Mediterranean and Suez Canal and from the south through the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden. Tourist visas and sailing permits should be obtained at Port Said, Port Tawfik (Suez) or Port Ghalib (these are official ports of entry along the Red Sea in Egypt).
